waven.ai for Mac.
It sits in your menu bar. Hold the hotkey, say what you want typed, and let go — the words land at your cursor in whatever app you're in. Short English dictation is transcribed right on the Mac. Longer recordings, other languages, and speaker-labelled transcripts run through your waven.ai account.
Notarized by Apple. Updates install themselves.
hold to talk · release to type · rebind it in settings
Install
- Open
waven.ai.dmgand drag waven.ai into Applications. - Launch it — its icon appears in the menu bar.
- Put your cursor in any text field, hold
⌘⇧space, and talk.
It asks for two permissions
Microphone is the obvious one. The app records only while you're dictating, not in the background.
Accessibility is what lets one app type into another. Every system-wide dictation tool needs it, and macOS makes you grant it yourself in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Without it, transcripts have nowhere to go.
Good to know
- Works on Apple Silicon Macs (M1 or newer) running macOS 14 or later.
- Punctuation can be spoken (“comma”, “new line”, “question mark”) or left to the model — your choice, in settings.
- Other languages, longer recordings, and speaker labels are covered by your waven.ai plan — the free tier includes 1.5 hours of transcription a month.
